Diabetes Discussed

A large number of patients coming for knee replacement surgery have diabetes. Patients with diabetes have a higher risk of infection and problems of wound healing. Therefore to get a successful outcome it is inportant to have a good control of diabetes for quick recovery. If your diabetes does not come under control with medication, your doctor may have to put you on insulin during your hospital stay and even upto the time the stiches are removed.  It is also essential to keep good control of diabetes even afterwards so that there is no risk of infection to the replaced joint. We recommend HpA1C levels to be less than 7 prior to surgery.
